Another pioneer on radiOzora: Banco de Gaia returns after 7 years with a new album and exclusive show!
The first new full-length studio album of legendary electronic music producer Banco de Gaia is finally out after 7 years and it's called Apollo. For this occasion and to ease the waiting for his live performance in Ozora, Toby Marks surprises the radiOzora listeners with an exclusive show presenting some of his favorite tunes and the new album material on 13th June Thursday, 8pm CET.
Toby Marks aka Banco de Gaia started to blend acoustic and electronic sounds in his music already two and a half decades ago and is redefining electronic world music ever since. Before entering the field of electronic music during Britain's acid house explosion in the late '80s, Toby Marks walked on a quite different path: he used to be a drummer in a heavy metal band.
The magical sound of Banco de Gaia integrates themes and techniques from different cultures and traditions like Eastern or Arabic music. Toby is continuously sampling exotic sources and during the past two decades he collaborated with world class musicians like Pink Floyd's Dick Parry, Natacha Atlas, Eat Static or Zion Train among others.
We are feeling honored at radiOzora to be able to host an exclusive show by Toby Marks presenting some of his favorite earlier tunes and of course his new album. APOLLO brings together heavy drum beats, powerful vocal arrays and lilting melodies, drawing inspiration from both retro and newschool. The new album contains some interesting collaboration tracks as well with vocalists and live musicians. The first installment called "Lamentations" features the ethereal vocals of Zhenia Mahdi-Nau as well as the closing track "Acquiescence". Both pieces were originally created for a film called Ancient Skies about which project Toby promises to spread more info later. Besides the guest vocals there are some live instruments appearing on the Apollo album as well with Tim Wheater on the flute, Patrick Dunn on viola, Matthew Jenkins on saxophone and Tedd Duggan on drums.
Banco de Gaia is definitely back, not only with a new album but also with exciting collaborations such as remixing Gaudi, Kaya Project and Desert Dwellers. His performance in Ozora Festival 2013 is one of the most awaited highlights of the Chillout Dome program.
